A group of final year B.A.Mass Communication students,who calls themselves 'Alpha',has come out with a documentary on the alienation of tribal group from the mainstream in wayanad.The film When Things Fall Apart ,was released by Civic Chandran,social activist,and exhibited at Trident Arcade Auditorium in Kalpetta on sunday(28-08-08).The documentary portrays the socio-cultural changes that ethnic tribes were forced to undergo after non-tribal section migrated to wayanad in the first half of the last centuray.The group members ,who are students of N.M.S.M. Govt. college,Kalpetta,have made an earnest attempt to reveal the impact created by the visual media and modern inventions on the life of the ethinic people.
Grave losses
Though they have accepted the changes in the society,these have adversely affected the cultural idendity they had acquired through centuries.As a result of these changes they have lost touch with their ethnical dialects,arts,music,dress,rituals and even the cultural idendity.
These changes,the transformation of these rustic people from primeval to modernity,and the consequances of these changes are the main themes of the documentary.
The documentary also points out the causes of segregation of the tribal people from the main stream.These students maiden venture cost Rs.43,000.They raised the amount from even doing manual labour.
